Bio
Stephen (Steve to his friends and colleagues) lives and works in Fort Collins, Colorado. He has been a photographer since he was 8, after seeing his first print being developed in his big brother’s darkroom. Steve has been fascinated ever since, and has explored many aspects of the wide world of photography, including black and white, color, alternative methods, and the new world of digital. His photographs have been shown throughout Colorado for several years. Starting in 2006, his work has been exhibited in California and Texas. He now pursues art and photography full time, but has spent time being a research scientist, software trainer, and ranch manager along the way.
After discovering that many of his favorite photographers such as Jay Dusard, Elizabeth Opalenic, and the great William Henry Jackson were painters before they “took up the camera,” Steve began to take drawing and painting classes to see if he could improve his art. He now has to find a way to balance his new fascination with painting with time for photography.
Most of Steve’s photographic knowledge is self-taught. His formal photographic training has been at the Santa Fe Workshops. He has studied painting with the noted Fort Collins artists Daniel Edmondson, Mary Harnett, and Don Vogl.
“If you want to know the reason,
Don’t come runnin’ after me.
For I am just a painter,
Passing through in history...”
